Bellafill® in Palm Springs & Palm Desert, CA

Cosmetic Surgery Palm Springs CA

If you are searching for long-lasting results to smooth facial wrinkles, Bellafill® may be your answer. Bellafill® is unique because it has been shown to last years instead of months, compared to other filler treatments.

What is Bellafill®?

Bellafill® is classified as a “synthetic” filler. It consists of a mix of 80 percent collagen and 20 percent polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) microspheres. PMMA is a biocompatible material that has been safely used in medical implants and other devices for over 65 years.

Bellafill® targets nasolabial folds and acne scars in a two-step method. The FDA has verified its results on nasolabial folds for five years. It has verified Bellafill® results for treating acne scars for up to one year.

Areas That Bellafill® Can Be Used For

  • Laugh lines
  • Lips
  • Nose
  • Under the eyes

How Does Bellafill® Work?

Bellafill® works in two ways, first using the collagen in the filler and then the PMMA microspheres. The collagen shows first, immediately adding volume to the skin to lift and fill smile lines and acne scars.

As the body begins to absorb the collagen, the PMMA microspheres kick in. Once injected along with the collagen, the PMMA microspheres remain in place and they create a matrix that supports new collagen production in your skin. So, in addition to the filling aspect from the injected collagen Bellafill® also stimulates your body to create new collagen, which rejuvenates and fills the skin for years.

Can Bellafill Be Combined With Other Cosmetic Procedures?

Yes. According to studies, Bellafill can be safely used as a part of a more comprehensive treatment plan that involves other procedures. Depending on which procedures you choose to reach your cosmetic goals, Dr. Lombardo may suggest spacing your appointments a week or longer apart. This way, one treatment does not adversely affect the side effects, recovery, or outcome of another. Here, you can expect to receive guidance that is tailored to your needs and desired rejuvenation!

How Does Bellafill Compare To Other Synthetic Fillers?

The most well-known dermal filler treatments are “natural” in that they are made with hyaluronic acid, a chemical that the body makes naturally. Synthetic dermal fillers are made using micro polymer agents. These are not naturally occurring in the body but tend to be very safe. For example, the sutures that are commonly used in surgical procedures are made using some type of micro polymer material. Injecting an agent beneath the skin is generally considered safe and effective. Bellafill is a synthetic filler that is made using polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA). Other forms of synthetic fillers are made with materials like poly-l-lactic acid (PLLA) or calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA). Due to its manufacturing process and material, Bellafill is the only five-year filler currently available.

Are Bellafill Injections Painful?

It can be uncomfortable to receive injections of any kind! That said, we use the finest possible needle to administer dermal filler injections. Bellafill is also made with lidocaine. Most patients tolerate their treatment very well without the need for a topical numbing cream. If you are concerned about discomfort, please don’t hesitate to talk to your provider. We are happy to do whatever we can to improve your treatment experience.

Can A Second Session Of Injections Provide Any Added Benefit?

It is possible that you or Dr. Lombardo may suggest a second round of Bellafill injections after your initial session. This will depend on the improvement that is noticed over the two months after your first treatment. If, at that time, you feel that you would like to enhance your results, you may arrange for more injections.

Can Anyone Receive Bellafill Injections?

While Bellafill is considered safe and appropriate for many adults over the age of 21, it may not be right for everyone. Before you can receive Bellafill, your doctor or licensed provider will perform a thorough review of your health and medical history. It is important to inform your provider if you have severe allergies, a bleeding disorder, or a history of irregular scarring. You may not be a good candidate for Bellafill if you are allergic to lidocaine or bovine collagen. Before administering a full treatment, your provider will conduct a test. This involves a single, small injection of the product beneath your skin. You may not be a good candidate for this treatment if your skin becomes inflamed or irritated after the test injection or if you demonstrate any systemic reactions, such as muscle or joint aches. Your provider will follow-up with you and work with you to determine the best way to achieve satisfying rejuvenation using Bellafill or an appropriate alternative.

When Will I See My Results After My Bellafill® Session?

As mentioned above, Bellafill® works in two ways to return the volume to erase smile lines and acne scars. First, it immediately fills in the depressed areas under your nasolabial folds and acne scars. You’ll notice a difference immediately.

From there, as your body begins to absorb the collagen and react to the PMMA microspheres, new collagen production is triggered. This isn’t immediate, but this provides five years of results.

How Long Does Bellafill® Injections Last?

Bellafill® is the king when it comes to dermal filler endurance. No other filler is even close. The FDA has approved Bellafill® and verifies its results on nasolabial folds for five years, and on acne scars for one year. Studies show 83% of patient satisfaction with Bellafill® after five years. Also, 91% of people who’ve had Bellafill® injections would recommend them to a friend.

Do I Need Multiple Bellafill® Injections?

No, Dr. Lombardo injects Bellafill® during one treatment session. From there, the PMMA microspheres get to work creating new collagen that provides impressive results for 5 years.

The Side Effects Of Bellafill® Treatment

Bellafill® has been extensively studied and shown to be safe. To gain FDA approval, Bellafill® submitted the largest and longest prospective dermal filler study ever completed.

After your injection session, you may have some temporary swelling, redness, bruising, lumps or bumps, itching, and discoloration at the injection sites. These typically resolve in 1-7 days.

How Much Does Bellafill® Cost?

As with all injectables, Bellafill® is priced by the syringe. When Dr. Lombardo meets with you, she’ll look at your nasolabial folds and acne scarring (if you are having those treated), and then she can give you an idea of the amount of Bellafill® you will need.
